Transport in Poland
During Albatro’s trips in Poland, we travel with buses that maintain a high standard and are equipped with air conditioning. In the cities you can easily get around by bus.
Currency and credit cards
Poland’s currency is called zloty. It is always good to have some coins and banknotes on hand when you pay in shops and restaurants, where it is not always possible to use high denominations.
Visa, MasterCard, Diners and American Express can be used as debit cards anywhere in Poland. In the larger cities you will find ATMs where you can withdraw cash.
Price level in Poland
Prices in Poland are usually slightly lower than in Sweden. You can get a meal at a middle-class restaurant for about 150 kronor. Incidentally, other goods cost about half as much as in Sweden.
Tip
It is customary to tip in Poland. You can round the sum up to the nearest 10 zlotys or add 10 percent of the amount. When you take a taxi, you can round the amount up if you are happy with the trip.
On round trips and cruises, drivers, guides and ship staff expect a certain amount of tips. You will find recommendations in your travel program.
Electricity
In Poland, 230 V / 50 hertz is used and the sockets are of the same type as in Sweden.
Telephone and internet
According to Allcitycodes, Poland’s international country code is +48. It can be expensive to call to and from Poland and to connect to the internet by phone. Feel free to inform your mobile operator about coverage and prices before departure.
Most hotels and many cafes and restaurants have internet access, sometimes free of charge and sometimes for a fee. Here you can log in with your computer or tablet. However, both signal and speed can vary.
There are not as many internet cafes as before. The local tourist office or library is usually able to lend a computer with internet connection.
Drinking water and hygiene
There are very few public toilets in Poland and they are usually not very clean. It usually costs between one and two zlotys to use a public toilet. Feel free to bring a bottle of hand sanitizer.
You should not drink the water from the tap. Instead, buy bottled water.
Smoking
In Poland, smoking is not allowed on buses, at train stations and at waiting points. You may not smoke indoors in public places unless you have set up a special smoking room.
Tact and tone
Poles are usually very polite to both each other and visitors. You take in hand and hold up the door and more. If you are visiting a church, you should cover your arms and not wear short shorts, a skirt, or a dress.
